Fighting for an access to water

Drought
For almost a century, the region of Zinder has been facing an ongoing issue with water access. As the population has grown rapidly, as well as climate hazards and as the region is located on a rocky basement, Zinder is not able anymore to supply its water needs. Huge difficulties result from the situation, people in the region being not able anymore to benefit from decent sanitation. The lack of hygiene brings diseases that frequently cause malnutrition, a life-threatening issue for children under 5. Students miss class to go and collect water, adolescent girls stop going to school because of the lack of water necessary to their menstrual hygiene, as unhealthy ponds are the only solution at their disposal.
